2012 Beat meetings Schedule

For Beat 1433: February 16th, April 19th, Jun 21st, Aug 16th, Oct. 18th, Dec. 20th

Meetings are held on the above listed Thursdays at St. Mary of the Angels - 1850 N. Hermitage at 7 pm

Please note that due to the dissolution of Precinct 13, it is likely that our Beats may be remapped once the Precinct changes are made.  We will let you know as soon as there is information available.

CAPS - the Community Policing program meetings have changed - please see the schedule above.   This is the place to go if you have concerns about crime, questions for police about increased criminal activity.

We are in Beat 1433 - you can see whether a police car is our Beat car by checking out the number on the top of the squad car.  You can check on-line at ClearMap for crimes reported in our beat for any 2 week period within the last 3 months.

It is very important to report a crime, without the report, the police cannot identify where crimes are happening.  Even if it is too small to report to your insurance, please file a police report if a theft occurs.   It is through these programs that more focus is put on an area that is suddenly having an increase in a certain type of crime.

Also, basic Safety tips:

Don't walk home alone late at night - stay alert - do not get distracted talking on the phone or listening to music.

Keep all sides of your building well-lit. Close and lock windows when you are not at home.

Do not leave valuables or items on your car seats or dashboard - windows will be smashed for little things as well as big things.

Post your address on the rear of your property, fence, gate, garage, whatever is there.  You can get free numbers from the 14th precinct CAPS office.

Post a "No Trespassing" sign - also available from CAPS - to make it easier for the police to arrest someone on your property, even if a crime has not been committed yet.

  • Crime in the neighborhood - There has been a huge increase in all types of crime in Beat 1433 in the last few months.  About 42 vehicles have been stolen from the streets, local residents have been assaulted on the way home, numerous car windows have been smashed for even a cheap pair of sunglasses.  Stats from the September CAPS meeting: 75 thefts, 27 auto thefts, 20 criminal damage to vehicles, 17 retail thefts, 14 forcib le entry burglaries, 14 assault/batteries, 14 burglary/damage to property.
  • The next CAPs meeting won't occur until the end of January, 2012.   Stay alert - look for suspicious persons, who might be walking near the curbs or checking car doors up and down the street.  Call the police if you suspect a crime is in progress.  Report any incident, even if it is under what your insurance deductible is.  If the police are not aware of ALL the incidents there may not be as much attention placed on the neighborhood.  We are also considering requesting a Blue Light Camera be placed somewhere in the beat.  If you have strong feelings either for or against a Blue light camera, please contact PPNA via email.
  • Street repairs - PPNA has requested of 1st ward Alderman Joe Moreno that the 1300 and 1400 N. Bosworth streets be placed on the top of the list for street repair as soon as it is possible.  These streets have been torn up heavily by major construction or new condos on those blocks and is in need of repaving.
  • Street closings: 1200 block of N. Greenview is closed during the afternoons on school days while the Montessori children are being picked up during the construction of their new gymnasium, The 1200 block of N. Greenview is being closed from 3:15-3:45 during school days for pick up of their children by parents.
  • 14th District court Advocacy - Needs your presence.  By being present in court or other administrative hearings, you and your neighbors send a strong message to defendants that crime will not be tolerated in our neighborhood.  for more information on how to join the court Advocacy Subcommittee, please contact: Officer Sonia Moriarty, 2150 N. California Avenue, Chicago, IL 60647 - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
